Directions to Avaline Music Festival

The location is on our family ranch near King City, CA (on 101).  We have an address now, which is 5000 Lewis Creek Road, Pacines (Google Map link attached but note, this is 2 miles short of the festival grounds!).  We are 5 miles down Lewis Creek Rd, from Hwy 25, about 20 miles east of King City in the Diablo Mountains.  The latitude & longitude are: 36.2859N, -120.8575W

Directions to Avaline Ranch from Los Angeles or Central Valley:
Take I-5 (North from LA) to Coalinga.  Exit Jayne Ave. and head west about 10 miles into town. Or take 198 west (Harris Ranch!) if you’re coming south on the 5 (or you missed Jayne).  Fuel and stock up and map your destination, it’s your last chance for 100 miles round trip!  Head west on Hwy 198 aka Elm Ave.  out of town.  Follow over the mountains and down the other side about 30 miles.  Turn right on Hwy 25 (aka Peachtree Rd or Airline Hwy).  It’s easy to miss, watch for a sign at the bottom of the hill!  Follow 25 north about 12 miles & turn Right on Lewis Creek Rd.  (look for the balloons!)

Or take 101 North to Hwy 198 East (San Ardo), follow ~15mi to Hwy 25, turn left and head north ~12mi to Lewis Creek Rd. Last gas is in San Ardo and Groceries in Paso Robles or keep going to King City (see next section)

Directions to Avaline Ranch from Bay Area or coastal routes:
There are 2 roughly equal routes to the ranch from the Bay Area:

  • Route 1 is straighter and generally better for RV’s or large trailers, though can have more traffic. Take 101S to King City (between Paso Robles & Salinas).  Take the first King City exit, Broadway, go right loop around and under the freeway.  Turn right to stay on Broadway St and follow it through town to the T intersection at 1st Street.  Make a left on 1st Street, which will curve to the right and become Bitterwater Road.  Follow Bitterwater Rd approximately 14 miles to Highway 25.  Go right on Hwy 25, past the school and another 10 miles south to Lewis Creek Rd. which is on the left (look for balloons!). See below for directions to the ranch down Lewis Creed Rd.  FYI there is a Safeway, restaurants (El Lugarcito is a fav), Mexican pastry shops and a tortilliaria that makes excellent carnitas (Tortilliaria Martinez) in King City.
  • Route 2 is by far the more scenic route, but it is a winding, two-lane road most of the way.  Take 101S to Highway 25, which is just past Gilroy and exit (it only goes one way).  Follow 25 past Hollister (in about 13 miles) and continue about 50 miles further to Lewis Creek Road.  Be careful not to miss the turn (left only) onto Lewis Creek Rd. (look for the balloons!). It’s about 10 miles past Bitterwater School and sign for King City at Biterwater Rd.  FYI, there is a Safeway at the intersection of Tres Pinos/Sunnyslope in Hollister with a gas station that generally has good prices and a large grocery (last chance).

From Lewis Creed Rd:
Once on Lewis Creek Rd., drive carefully about 5 miles to the site.  There is a narrow bridge 2.5 miles in which may be difficult for larger vehicles and big RV’s don’t fit.  Use the Creek Crossing, it’s been leveled and there will be signs to help you!  When you see the Avaline Ranch sign, you’ll have another mile to go.  Important Note: if you map it, the location shows up 2 miles short of the festival site!  Keep going and you can’t miss us!
